I absolutely loved having "Virtual Class." GAS is almost $4.00 at the present time, so driving to Hickory has gotten pretty old. It was so nice to sit on my couch and use Skype if I needed help on any of my assignments. It was a nice change. I was able to communicate with Celeste when I was having issues about some of the assignments.
I don't think I would want every class online. We definitely needed Dr. K.'s personal help here and there for some of the projects.

Biltmore House E-Book!
Biltmore House E-Book
I just finished this E-Book on my class field trip to the Biltmore House. Each child was given a letter word. (Ex: A: Asheville.) They each wrote about their part of the trip. The students loved recording and videoing themselves as I worked on this project.
If I had to do it again, I would have tried to do a better job on the videos. Kids are hard to work with sometimes. Other than that, I enjoyed the project.

Bubbleply Baby Video
Video
Bubbleply is a fun tool to use. I can see teaching my students to write dialogue in the bubbles on the video. Quotation marks are something students struggle with across the board in later elementary school and middle school. This would be a great alternative to worksheets!
I thought it was going to take me a little while to understand how to use it, but it came really easy.

Voki Message: Welcome Back to School Poem
Get a Voki now!
My students would love Voki. I know they would love choosing their character and accessorizing it. I read a poem on my Voki. I can see having my students read a story they wrote on their Voki.

SKYPE
Sarah and I had a conversation tonight on SKYPE. It was kind of silly because we were sitting right next to each other, but if we were in a 3rd world country it would be awesome. You can find me with this address: kelly.harmon104 I also think this would be an awesome thing to use in the classroom.

Delicious Bookmarking
I have found it much easier to bookmark. I don't know what happened to cause the delay in sites showing up, but now things are much better! I love the way I can organize different sites in this program. It is extremely helpful for me when I am away from my home computer. Why didn't anyone think of this earlier?

Not so delicious: Social Bookmarking
I worked for 3 hours last night on the delicious bookmarks. I entered tons of links, but the links wouldn't connect to my already made tags. I'm going to have to have a counseling session with Dr. K. when we get to class on Monday. I need help!

E:BOOK: Meet Our Teachers!
Ms. Hicks and I have worked on this E-Book for the past two weeks. We hoped to have something to show the students that would help them to identify with some of their teachers. The title of our E-book is: Welcome to Rutherford College. Questions such as, "Which teacher has tap danced since age 3?" are included to help the students get to know their teachers better. Enjoy! Our biggest struggle was formating all the action buttons. We can't wait to hear what everyone has to say about it!!!

Filtering Gaggle
Just as everything was going so good, of course something had to go bad.
I had forgotten about the branches of gaggle. (Chat room, Blog) I got a blocked message the next day from gaggle saying 2 boys had typed inappropriate content. My heart sank and I felt like I wanted to wipe the account away due to this.
When I investigated the blocked messages the gaggle team sent back to me, they were not inappropriate. Thankfully, it did make me feel better to know gaggle is watching every move these kids make. I went back and blocked the chat and blog opportunities (for now) until my kids are able to understand email. I also realized in this process that they could email outside of the class, which made me nervous. I found in the settings where I could block outside email as well. I know this is being strict, but I just want to keep the kids safe.

Success with Gaggle!!!
Oh! Today was fantastic! Going on Sarah's advice, I used the projector first to show my students all the steps. I then handed out the instruction sheet for help just in case they needed it. I have 24 kids in my class, so I have to try and keep things as calm as possible. After answering all 5,000 questions the kids had, we ventured to the computer lab. I was surprised at their technology skills! Of course they had issues with the "@" symbol and other minor things, but once they got going, they did extremely well!
They BEGGED me to take them back tomorrow so they could do it some more. They asked me if it was possible for them to email from home. When I told them yes, they went crazy.
When I got home around 5, I checked the activity in my Gaggle account, and 5 kids had already emailed someone from home. I was psyched! I can't wait to see who else does.
I also enjoy spying on their little conversations . :)
I LOVE IT!

It's a Miracle!
I talked to my computer teacher today about Inspiration. We have it at school! I can't believe it! I am going to keep a small group after school next week to experiment with it before the entire class tries it.

1st Blog
I am looking forward to using the "rapid fire" tool in my class to help my classroom brainstorm topics. We are teaching them to write the first things they think of as they are brainstorming. Rapid fire will be helpful to get them to become quicker in topic selection.
